Whirlwind hits Los Baños

MANILA, Philippines — A whirlwind hit the town of Los Banos in Laguna province Thursday afternoon, stirring panic among its residents.

Eyewitness accounts said the tornado was seen between 4:30 to 5 pm.

Harold Grande, an instructor at the College of Development Communication in University of the Philippines Los Banos, said he was inside the classroom when he heard a commotion outside.

“I was at DevCom and the students were shouting outside then I saw it [tornado] forming then it dissipated,” said Grande in a phone interview, adding that it seemingly lasted for five minutes.

“It was like those in the movies,” he said of the rare phenomenon in the science town of Laguna.

Meanwhile, Pamela Lomaad, a senior BS Economics student at UPLB said the tornado formed twice. She even took a video of the incident.

“We saw nets and leaves flying. You can see the tornado really forming,” she said.

“Students were amazed at first but they were in panic later,” she added.

A Philippine Daily Inquirer editor, quoting eyewitnesses, told INQUIRER.net the whirlwind damaged some buildings near the main intersection of the town.

I found a dead butterfly today, some huge brown furry thing which I suppose used to fly because it has wings. Mimi asked my mom to eat it and my mom told her, “Why don’t you eat it yourself?”

Mimi cried. I laughed.

We placed the dead butterfly inside an Olay Total Effects box with a see-through plastic front. Mimi said it’s the butterfly’s coffin. Ang korni ng mga bata shet.

Mom said Justine would need dead butterflies in the future so we are keeping the Olay box for her.

Roz is attempting to become the first woman to cross the Pacific Ocean. I envy her. She’s crossing the world’s biggest ocean with her boat and solar panels and a few stuff to survive and here I am, too lazy to even cross my legs. Eh pasensya, nakataas na paa ko eh.

I can’t believe she’s doing this alone though. I couldnt even cross streets alone, I couldn’t even do the sign of the cross without being confused of which side to use for sa ngalan ng espiritu santo. Cross cross cross. Ex-husband ni Nicole Kidman, Tom Cross. Yes, kailangan may wordplay, which sometimes fails. It always fails actually.

If I were Roz, I would bring M with me. Because crossing the Pacific without M is like, crossing it like Roz. Anu raw?
